A few days before the start of the most important sporting event in the world, surely you have already taken some measures to take full advantage of the increase in demand in your restaurant ... but, if not, don't worry! We have some tips that will surely be of great use to you.

Why should the World Cup matter to your business?

With a history of almost 150 years, the FIFA World Cup (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is a sporting event that takes place regularly every 4 years (since 1930). This year the soccer “madness” will be present from June 14 to July 15, with the country of Russia as its headquarters.

Mexico has a long relationship with the World Cup: on 15 occasions our National Team has managed to participate in it and on two occasions we even hosted this event!

This event is of great interest to you and your business because, basically, it is considered one of the most important in the world, since it involves 32 countries (and, in turn, this means that it involves many spectators around the globe). Just to give you a number, the final of France vs. Italy (in Germany 2002) was seen on more than 1,100 million TVs around the world!

How to take advantage of this event in my business?

An important point to be able to take advantage of the occasion is that you bear in mind that many of the matches will be played early (during the morning and at noon).

This is nothing but good news for breakfast places that were looking to boost their sales. While the rest of the restaurants will have to evaluate if they explore new schedules, or take advantage of some repetitions. More tips, below:

  • Create the atmosphere. If you already have televisions and / or projection equipment for broadcasts, great. If not, you have time to solve this issue. Additionally, we recommend you not to miss the opportunity to decorate the place: hang some shirts and you can even encourage yourself to decorate with objects such as balls, nets, etc. Remember also that the main ambassadors of your business are the staff that make up your team. They may get into the mood of the World Cup with shirts of the participating teams or painted with the flags of the teams that will play.
  • Prepare the infrastructure. Closely related to the previous point, you must be prepared to receive a greater influx of diners. Come up with a plan with your staff so that the tables are in the proper orientation (with respect to televisions), that the audio and cable for the games are of the appropriate quality, and finally that the production can meet the demands .
  • Be part of a modern and digitized World Cup. Having promotions in social networks, dynamics that apply both in person and in digital media, and even taking advantage of the influx to implement digital commands, will be key to making your clients feel that they are living Russia '18 (and not Mexico '86).
  • Menu and related offers. Last, but not least, is that all production is oriented to the big event. From offering football-themed dishes and drinks, to real-time promotions related to games (free drinks if that team scores a goal, free tickets for entire “teams”, etc.).

As you will see, the possibilities are as varied as they are interesting: we hope these tips will help you in the preparations. Remember not to waste time, the World Cup is closer than it seems!
